Chessie targets K-3rd graders. Students build both confidence and comprehension skills by selected books to read at home and then meeting with volunteers to answering questions about what they've read. This program starts before school at 7:40am in the Media Center and student participate from when the bell rings to approximately 8:15am. This SPES award-winning reading program has been a favorite among students and parents in the school for many years.

As part of the program, students earn rewards by choosing and reading various books from the Media Center designated for their reading level by their teachers. Chessie started this week and has the following schedule:

• Mondays: 1st and 3rd grade
• Tuesdays: Kindergarten and 2nd grade (Kindergarteners will start in January)
• Wednesdays: 1st and 3rd grade
• Thursdays: Kindergarten and 2nd grade
